As expected, June was an important month for the MotoGP rider market. There have been some important announcements and more will come in the coming weeks. One should concern Marco Bezzecchi, who seems destined to join Jorge Martin in Aprilia. Another expected soon is Joan Mir’s renewal with Honda, a real surprise.

MotoGP, Joan Mir bets on Honda again

The two-time world champion said he was quite frustrated with the situation at HRC, given that there was no progress on the RC213V. He had also opened up to a “Marc Marquez style” solution with the move to a satellite team to try to relaunch himself after a season and a half with many falls, injuries and only negative results.

Despite all this, news has arrived from Spain of the agreement to extend the contract expiring at the end of 2024 by two seasons. Therefore, Mir would remain in the Honda team until 2026. As explained by colleagues at Motorsport.com, the announcement is awaited soon. Evidently, HRC must have used convincing arguments on a design and economic level to push the Mallorcan pilot not to abandon a ship that is now leaking from all sides. He will continue to be supported by Luca Marini, who had signed a two-year contract and who never thought of leaving early.

Alex Rins is waiting for offers

A rider that Joan knows very well, having been his teammate at Suzuki for four years, is Alex Rins. The Catalan also has a contract that expires at the end of 2024, but in his case there is still no clarity on the future: “I’m always the same hungry – he told the official MotoGP website – and I started talking to Yamaha at Mugello, but there’s nothing on the table. We’ll see what happens“.

Rins hopes to renew with Yamaha, which at the moment has not yet decided and is also waiting to understand if there will be a signing with Prima Pramac Racing to return to having a satellite team in 2025. There was also talk of the Trackhouse Aprilia hypothesis, where there is Davide Brivio is the team manager, but even there there are more names under observation: starting with those of the current Oliveira-Fernandez couple. There is a lot of uncertainty about the future of the 28-year-old from Barcelona.
