Vasco Sarto, former president of the Aosta Valley Cycling Society who had taken over the reins of the stage race after Giovanni “Nino” Ramires, who died last Friday, died this morning, on the day of the presentation of the Giro della Valle d’Aosta.

Native of Desio, he was also manager of Aurora Desio. It was in Desio that he was the organizer of the Italian women’s road championships in 1989. Sarto was a race judge and representative of the Lombardy Race Judges Commission before becoming the organizer: as a judge he was the teacher of Rosella Bonfanti, also from Desio . Speaking of judges, Sarto was a great friend of Gianni Meraviglia and now joins him in heaven.

The family has frequented the Aosta Valley for many years with a holiday home and for this reason Sarto, a native Brianza native, became president of the Giro della Valle d’Aosta. He also moved to Valle d’Aosta on an almost permanent basis since the 1990s.

Sarto was 85 years old, had been ill for some time and was hospitalized in a hospital in Milan. He leaves behind his wife Teresa and his son Massimiliano.

Our editorial staff sends our condolences to the Sarto family.
