Jannik Sinner was welcomed in Halle by a cake depicting a number 1. Today, Jannik begins his second week at the top of the rankings and, on German grass, he will officially take to the court for the first time as king of world tennis. “I still have a lot to learn, even if I’m number 1”, these are the words of Sinneralready in Germany for a few days after the party in Sesto and the pre-Olympic visits to Rome.
«Sometimes I wonder how it was possible for me, born in a small village like Sesto, to have reached the top of the world», continued Sinner, well aware however that the difficult part begins now. «Becoming number 1 is one thing, staying there is another. I have to continue to work hard, especially from a physical point of view.” The adventure on the meadows of Sinner it will start on Tuesday or Wednesday (tomorrow’s schedule will be announced today) against the Dutch Tallon Griekspoor, against which the precedents are extremely favourable: four matches, four victories for Jannik, all in the last year and a half. Sinner and Griekspoor faced each other in the Rotterdam semi-final in both 2023 and 2024, then again in the Davis quarterfinals in Malaga and in the round of 32 in Miami. After four matches on a hard surface, however, this will be the first on grass: the Halle tournament will be broadcast live on Sky Sport.
