Thirteenth victory of the season, which came in the heartfelt home match and, what’s more, monopolizing both the final podium and that of the mountain grand prix. The 37th edition of the Vittorio Giorgi Trophy in memory will enter the annals of the Fratelli Giorgi Brasilia ISI Service Teamwith the boys directed by Leone Malaga authors of what can be defined as the perfect performance.
At the end of the scheduled 113 km, Ludovico Mellano crossed the finish line first, at the third center of the season: the Cuneo native born in 2006 greeted the company of the group between the first and second climbs of Colle dei Pasta, gaining a margin of advantage of around 1′ and 30″ over his pursuers; the last meters were then transformed into a catwalk for the pacesetter, who was also able to enjoy the parade arrival of his two teammates Tommaso Quaglia and Giacomo Rosato, who in turn were able to escape from the group on the second of the three grand prix of the mountain.
That the home team did not want to leave anything to chance was clear from the first kilometres, with the boys wearing Team Giorgi jerseys in the top positions of a group of 165 strong: nothing to do for Angelo Petris (Gottardo Giochi Caneva), Mirco Zevrain (Fiumicello), Matteo Morelli (Feralpi Monteclarense) and for the very active Alessandro Zanin (Postumia), who on several occasions tried to break away.
The platoon appeared so compact at the beginning of the final circuit that it was repeated three times, with the triple ascent to Colle dei Pasta; in the first lap the forcing of Martin Herrano, first in the gpm, reduced the group to around thirty units, paving the way for Ludovico Mellano’s attack; on the second ascent Tommaso Quaglia then left, then Giacomo Rosato, who continued by mutual agreement to the finish line, making President Carlo Giorgi’s Sunday unforgettable.
«From memory I don’t remember a performance like this in the home match», confirms the president of the Bergamo association. «The boys were wonderful: they interpreted the race as we had said, each one carrying out their task perfectly; seeing them work as a team and then passing in front of everyone on the Colle dei Pasta and then at the finish line was an indescribable emotion.”
«It is a victory that is worth more, because it has a particular emotional value for our president», confirms Ludovico Mellano. «Furthermore, I arrived alone, which confirms my growth on the pace. Was it the perfect performance? It can be defined like this, also because the level at the start was high: above all we were keeping an eye on Michele Bicelli, who however suffered a fall”.
«It was one of the most important races of the season and we took to the streets with the desire to win and give the home trophy to our president, who is the one who makes all this possible», confirms Quaglia, who reached the finish line with the first year Giacomo Rosato. «We kept the race closed in the flat turns, then Mellano launched himself and, once his advantage was reassuring, both Quaglia and I tried», confirms the young man from Treviso.
A test of strength also confirmed by the climbers’ ranking, won by Ludovico Mellano ahead of Tommaso Quaglia and the Colombian Martin Herreno.
