Everything is ready for Jannik Sinner’s debut as world number one. The South Tyrolean will play his first match as first in the ATP ranking on a particular surface: the Halle grass, where he will obviously be the lowest seeded player.
His words in an interview given to the ATP website: “It would be really special to win here, because there aren’t many grass tournaments throughout the year. I only play here and at Wimbledon, so I only have two chances this year. But overall, it’s great to be back on grass.”
The particularities of the surface: “Here it is very different. The first few days you have to pay attention to your movements on grass and it’s difficult, especially when you play the first round against players who have already played a tournament on grass. They have a little more feeling. In Halle they believed in me, they gave me a wild card years ago, so I’m happy to be back here and I hope I can show some good tennis from the start.”
The first opponent will be Tallon Grieskpooranything but a simple encounter: “He plays well on grass. He serves well and is good in the volley game. It will be a very difficult match, but I can’t wait to play. It will be a good test for me, my first match, it will help me see what my level is in everything.”.
