The entire preparation for Paris 2024 Olympic Games it was accompanied by a sort of parallel soap opera, focused on the presence or absence of the athletes Russians and Belarusians, then accepted after a long series of reflections by the IOC on an individual basis, in a neutral manner and, above all, only if suitable for a series of specific requests, including the position against the current war in Ukraine and the absence of a link with your country’s army. Today, Saturday 15 June, the International Olympic Committee has the first list of participants admitted to the Five Circles event has been released.

At the moment I am only fourteen Russian athletes have received IOC approvalwhile I am eleven Belarusian ones. Five sports under consideration: cycling, gymnastics, weightlifting, taekwondo and wrestling. A further list will be drawn up in the next few days, as soon as the Commission appointed by the IOC can analyze the various positions of the profiles in contention. In some sports, the number of eligible athletes is fewer than the number of spots earned. In these cases, unused places will be reallocated to athletes from other Nations in accordance with the qualification system.

As far as road cycling is concerned, the Russians will be on board Tamara Dronova, Alena Ivanchenko and Alexandr Vlasov. For gymnastics, only the St. Petersburg native will leave for France Anzhela Bladtceva, together with the Belarusians Ivan Litvinovich and Viyaleta Bardzilouskaya. There were two appearances in weightlifting only for Belarus: Siuzanna Valodzka and Yauheni Tsikhantsou.

The fighting team is decidedly larger: Russia will be able to count on a contingent of ten athletes, that is Nachin Mongush, Shamil Mamedov, Arslan Bagaev, Abdulla Kurbanov, Alan Ostaev, Magomed Murtazaliev, Natalya Malysheva, Veronika Chumikova, Alina Kasabieva and Elizaveta Petliakova.
