Record prize money for 2024: it will reach 50 million

A mind-boggling prize pool for one of the most prestigious and important tournaments of the entire season. Wimbledon is preparing to welcome the best tennis players in the world with truly stellar prize money: the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club has in fact announced that this year the tournament will reach 50 million pounds as total compensation for the players starting point of the London Grand Slam, recording a new historic record.

The milestone had already been reached in 2023 when the prize money was a total of 44 million and 700 thousand pounds: from one year to the next there was an increase of 11.9%. The new champions of the event, in both the men’s and women’s singles, will take home as much as 2.7 million pounds (equivalent to 3.45 million dollars).

As reported by Eurosport, the prize money of the English event has doubled after 10 years: in 2014 alone it was 25 million. Not insignificant increases also for the doubles compared to last year (11.9%), as well as for the qualifiers (14.9%).

Whoever exits the first round of the main draw will earn a check for 60 thousand pounds (5 thousand more). One of the most significant innovations concerns what the players who reach the semi-finals or final will be able to achieve: the difference, compared to 2023, is 19.2% and 19.1% respectively.

“I am particularly pleased that we have also been able to increase the prize money for the wheelchair tournament, quadrupling to £1 million for the first time. Interest in attending Wimbledon has never been greater, with demand ticket history,” announced Deborah Jevans, president of the AELTC.
