Not even a week ago, Italy took two couples to the doubles final at Roland Garros. The dream of Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori in the men’s draw and that of Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani in the women’s draw was shattered in the semi-final, but the Italian men and women will always have the chance to make up for it on the clay of Paris.
After the team of singularists for the Olympic tournament (Jannik Sinner, Lorenzo Musetti, Luciano Darderi and Matteo Arnaldi in the men’s, Jasmine Paolini, Elisabetta Cocciaretto and Lucia Bronzetti in the women’s), here are also the doubles.
Italy brings two pairs in each board: Jannik Sinner will play with Lorenzo Musetti, and then there is the now well-tested pair formed by Bolelli and Vavassori, who before that at Roland Garros had also reached the final atAustralian Open (in Rome, however, they had stopped in the semi-final).
For Sinner, who is becoming familiar with grass these days and will be at the start of theATP 500 in Halle next week (he was welcomed in Germany with a cake in the shape of number 1), there will therefore be a double commitment: not alongside Lorenzo Sonego, which instead happened in the Davis Cup and at the last Masters 1000 in Montecarlo, but another Lorenzo. For Jannik, only one doubles title in his career, in 2021 paired with the American Reilly Opelka in Atlanta
In the feminine, however, there is room for the five-circle dream of Jasmine Paolini And Sara Errani (who, however, triumphed in Rome, before losing in the final in Paris) and to the couple formed by Elisabetta Cocciarettoe Lucia Bronzetti.
