The FIA has modified article 13.1.2 of the international sporting code, thus allowing Kimi Antonelli to potentially debut in Formula 1 even as a minor.
Kimi Antonelli he is literally one step away from Formula 1. Mercedes really seems to have chosen him to race in 2025 in place of Hamilton and alongside Russell. But he could make his debut as early as the next few weeks. Why did the FIA change article 13.1.2. of the international sporting code. In short, he changed the ‘Verstappen rule’ which established that no underage driver could race in Formula 1. Now this is no longer the case and therefore Antonelli could potentially race in the circus already in one of the summer races.

When Verstappen made his debut in Formula 1, a series of controversies broke out, which when you see them today makes you smile. Toro Rosso sent him to the track when he was still 17 years old. The FIA established that there would be no further cases and set 18 as the minimum age for debuting in the circus. Now, however, the article of the sporting code has been modified.
Establishing that: “At the sole discretion of the FIA, a driver who has recently and consistently demonstrated extraordinary skill and maturity in formula single-seater competition may be granted a Super License at the age of 17.”

Antonelli will be able to make his debut in Formula 1
This means that Kimi Antonelli, who will become an adult at the end of August, could already make his debut in Formula 1 in the next few weeks, not with Mercedes obviously, but with Williams who seemed to be able to ask for an exemption, already on the occasion of the Grand Prix of Imola last May.
It is not certain that he will run a GP, but he could perhaps take to the track in a free practice session, perhaps in one of the next races. Formula 1 is awaiting a tour de force with the Spanish, Austrian, Silverstone, Hungarian and Belgian GPs in rapid succession.
