Luciano Spalletti’s debut at Euro 2024 is approaching. The reigning European champions will challenge Albania in two days in Dortmund, a match valid for group B which also includes Spain and Croatia. Today, the national team coach found all 26 players called up for the German expedition. In a training session that lasted over two hours, Nicolò Barella and Nicolò Fagioli also returned to the group after Davide Frattesi has been in the group regularly since yesterday.

While waiting to understand how the two players recovering from fatigue will react to today’s training, Spalletti is seriously considering the possibility of returning to a back four for the match against Albania. After all, two Fridays ago, on the first day of the training camp, he had already anticipated it: “Against teams that play with only one attacker we will play with a back four so as not to lose a man”. And Albania, who only have Armando Broja at the center of their attack, are just that kind of team.

Today the coach insisted on 4-2-3-1 and two days before the Westfalenstadion match there is this important indication: Lorenzo and Dimarco are the two full-backs in a defense that will also feature Bastoni and, probably, one of Gianluca Mancini or Riccardo Calafiori. In the middle of the pitch the only one certain of a place is Jorginho, the leading light of Spalletti’s national team: then a lot will depend on Barella’s recovery with Cristante who is ready for a shirt from the first minute (Fagioli should not be in the match). Chiesa will certainly be the starter behind the first striker, Pellegrini and Frattesi are the main suspects for the other two shirts behind Gianluca Scamacca, a center forward who today in the press conference said he was ready to take this national team on his shoulders: “The pressure ‘They have strong players, it’s also nice to live with the pressure because every day it puts you in front of a new challenge.’
