It had to be flown and it was flown to Cremona at Giro Next Gen 2024. Steffen De Schuyteneer (Lotto Dstny) won the fifth stage, jumping and beating by a few centimeters Tim Torn Teutenberg (Lidl-Trek), still second after yesterday’s stage. Another podium for Lorenzo Conforti (VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè), third, while Andrea D’Amato (Biesse-Carrera) finishes with a good 4th place after yesterday’s third. Only 6th Paul Magnier (Soudal-QuickStep), who after making the whole team work got a little lost in the intricate final.
In a stage that did not foresee particular altitude difficulties, the race was animated by the attempt of 5 runners, namely Alexandre Vinokourov (Astana Qazaqstan), Ciro Perez (Mg.K Vis – Colors for Peace), Nicola Rossi (Italian National Team) , Edward Pawson (Rime Drali) and Filippo Omati (Team Technipes #inEmiliaRomagna), who managed to gain up to 3’30” on the group.
Always and only towed by Magnier’s Soudal-QuickStep, the platoon caught up with the fugitives 10 km from the finish, when the trains of the various sprinters began to increase the pace decisively. There Lidl Trek she was the most effective and precise in launching Teutenberg, who however was jumped in the last meters by De Schuyteneer, her teammate in the pink jersey Jarno Widar.
