Another box for Pool Libertas Cantù: from Gabbiano Mantova, here is the second setter Luca Martinelli. The announcement was made by the Cantù volleyball club which, after the hiring of the owner Francesco Cottarelli, identified the 1998 class born in Negrar di Valpolicella, in the province of Verona, as the reserve director for the 2024-2025 season.
«I accepted Cantù’s proposal – explains Martinelli – because last year with Mantova was a bit unexpected. Even though it was my first year in Serie A, I played the entire championship and we got to participate in the final stages of all the competitions. I therefore wanted to try to “ride the wave” and climb the categories. I spoke with Alessandro (Mattiroli, the coach of Libertas, ed.), who so far I have only met as an opponent, and I decided to throw myself into this new adventure, to try to see what my margins for growth still are.”
After the youth teams between Volley Bussolengo (2008-2015) and BluVolley Verona (2015-2019), Martinelli faced the B series in Verona, and then played between C and B at Volley Veneto Cavaion; in 2021 he moved to Scanzorosciate Pallavolo, still in B, before moving up to A3 last season in Mantua, on the Gabbiano side, and now arriving in the Città del Mobile in A2.
An important step, therefore, that the Venetian setter will face, a small goal which, if played well, could represent a springboard towards a category completely unknown to him.
«I don’t know the championship in depth and I don’t have particular expectations about it. On a personal level my goal is to grow from a technical point of view, an aspect that in recent years I have not been able to develop in a particular way, in order to improve and try to reach my limit. I can’t wait to get started”, concludes Martinelli.
The first new faces of the 2024-2025 season have been revealed, Libertas will make the remaining six names of the staff official between now and the beginning of July.
Staying in A2 is the first objective to be achieved: once in the safe, however, there is room for the dreams of a large group of enthusiasts who over the years have become increasingly accustomed to fighting for the top, or thereabouts.
