The 2024 Giro d’Italia has only been behind us for a few days, but we are already thinking about the 2024 Tour de France which will be a real spectacle. We will have three and a half stops in Italy, with the Grand Départ in Florence, in addition to the super challenge between Jonas Vingegaard (winner of the last two editions), Tadej Pogacar (fresh winner of the Giro), the Olympic time trial champion Primoz Roglic and the time trial world champion Remco Evenepoel. It will be fun (here is the complete startlist). Since we’re here, let’s also take a look at the path of this 111th edition of the Grand Boucle. 3498 km in total, 59 km in total time trial and 32 km of dirt road divided into 14 sectors. 67 GPM overall, including the Col de la Bonette which will be the highest point of this Tour thanks to his team 2802 meters above sea level. But not only that, there are 6 climbs from over 2000 meters above sea level: Sestieres (2035 meters), Galibier (2642 metres), this time from Briançon (the opposite route compared to the 2022 stage in which Pogacar collapsed), Tourmalet (2115 meters) from Luz-Saint-Sauveur, Col de Vars (2109 meters) e Island (2024 meters). Without forgetting the climbs of Peyresourde, Portet-d’Aspet, Colle d’Agnello and the Colle delle Finestreas well as now historic peaks such as Gallisternadecisive in the 2020 World Cup won by Alaphilippe, or even the Saint Luke arrival location of the Giro dell’Emilia. Of the 21 scheduled stages we will have 8 stages for sprinters, with Mark Cavendish who will try to surpass Eddy Merckx’s record of victories, 4 stage moves, 2 time trials and 7 mountain stages.
