Sveva Gerevini his second day of competition also starts off great and comes close to setting a personal best in the heptathlon long jump at the 2024 European Athletics Championships, currently taking place at the Olympic Stadium in Rome. The Italian multiplexer however loses a couple of positions and is therefore seventh in the general classification at 4688 points after five of the seven scheduled races.

The 28-year-old from Cremona placed the measurement on her first attempt, jumping 6.33 despite the headwind (-1.1 m/s) and coming within just one centimeter of his record set two years ago in indoor conditions in Ancona. Gerevini, in excellent form, then further forced the run-up phase, however collecting two nulls (the last one was really very long, over 6.50, also thanks to a more favorable wind) and not increasing his score.

The fourth place finisher at the last Indoor World Championships in Glasgow finished eighth in the single event, dominated by the Swiss Annik Kalin with an amazing 6.84 (Championship record within the heptathlon). Leadership of the general in the hands of the Belgian Nafissatou Thiam with 4991 points, +77 on her compatriot Noor Vidts, +117 on the Frenchwoman Auriana Lazraq-Khlass and +149 on the Swiss Kalin. The others are much further away, starting with the Dutch Sofie Dokter fifth at -276 immediately ahead of the German Sophie Weisenberg and Gerevini, who remains in line to sign the new Italian heptathlon record.
