Fernando Alonso ended a complicated second free practice session of the Canadian Grand Prix in the leadninth round of the 2024 Formula One World Championship. On the track of Montrealin fact, we were finally confident in a linear round, after the storm with hail that had preceded (and ruined) the first round, but the rain she showed up again on the island of Notre Dame going to condition the pilots.
From this not simple scenario (the protagonists were able to run with slick tires only in the first half of FP2, but without pushing to the maximum) it emerged Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) with the time of 1:15.810 achieved with soft tyres, with a margin of almost half a second (+0.463) on George Russell (Mercedes) while the owner of the house is third Lance Stroll (Aston Martin) at 654 thousandths.
Fourth time for Charles Leclerc with the first of the Ferraris 746 thousandths from the top, but with a compound disadvantage compared to all the top 10 (he always ran on the medium tyres, before the intermediates of the second part of the session), while he finished fifth Daniel Ricciardo (Racing Bulls) at 921. The Dane is sixth Kevin Magnussen (Haas) 963 thousandths behind Alonso, therefore seventh Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) at 1,098, while the Japanese is eighth Yuki Tsunoda (Racing Bulls) at 1,141.

Ninth position for the Thai Alexander Albon (Williams) at 1,167, while completing the top 10 Sergio Perez (Red Bull) at 1,231. He doesn’t go beyond 13th position Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) 1,912 from the top but, in turn, obtained with medium tires, so he is 16th Oscar Piastri (McLaren) at 3,198 with medium tyres, therefore 20th and last Lando Norris (McLaren) to 5,033.
FP2 really bad, In the endfor Max Verstappen (which finishes 18th at 3,501). The three-time world champion, in fact, stopped after one smoked at the back of his Red Bull (despite the Power Unit being brand new) and preferred to park his car in the pits to avoid worse trouble, without returning to the track. The mechanics worked hard on the rear end of his RB20 (the problem seems to be at ERS)not hiding a lot of apprehension about what happened.
