Official, Davide Giazzon head coach of Rugby Rovigo

ROVIGO – FemiCz Rugby Rovigo Delta officially announces that the new head coach of the rossoblù First XV for the 2024/25 season will be Davide Giazzon.

Arriving as coach of the Bersaglieri scrum in 2020, Giazzon takes command of the team after Alessandro Lodi (photo above), who terminated his contract with the Club. The Club sincerely thanks Alessandro for his commitment and for having led the rossoblù to win their fourteenth Scudetto last year. Best wishes to Alessandro for his professional and personal future. Lodi will go to Parma to lead the Zebre U23 Academy and will be on the staff of the U20 national team.

Former hooker for the Italian national team, with whom he collected 29 caps, Davide Giazzon (photo above), will be the new head coach of Rugby Rovigo Delta.

Giazzon will be joined by Joe Van Niekerk (photo below on the left), defense coach and from Stefan Basson (photo below on the right), attack coach.

Rossoblù 548 was part of the Rovigo squad for a year, in 2011/12; he subsequently signed with the Aironi, with the Zebre, where he played 31 games and then with Benetton Rugby. In his last season as a player, he returned to the club where he grew up, Mogliano Rugby.

Davide began his coaching career in 2018 at Villorba Rugby in Serie B, then arriving in Rovigo in 2020 as coach of the rossoblù pack. With the rossoblù Giazzon won two Scudetti in 2021 and 2023.

“I would like to thank Alessandro for these two years, where we worked together.” – commented the sports director Polla Roux (photo above) – “He led the team professionally, managing to win their fourteenth Scudetto in 2023. We thank him for his passion and his attachment to the shirt. He gave a lot to the team and the city.”

“To give continuity to the project started with Lodi, together with the President we have identified Giazzon as the right person to fill the role of head coach. It was important to maintain this calm and positive environment, so we could only choose someone already on the staff. Giazzon, who has supported three coaches in Rovigo, has demonstrated that he has the competence to lead the team. It will be a new experience for him, we are happy to be able to give him this opportunity; we believe in his qualities. We must continue to grow and train players. With him there will be Van Niekerk and Basson, they will be able to give the right support to Giazzon to carry forward this project. He has 100% support from the club.” – concluded Polla Roux.
