All that was missing was the official announcement and now that has arrived too: Enzo Maresca is the new manager of Chelsea. The former Leicester technical guide has signed a contract until June 2029, with an option to renew for a further season. “Joining Chelsea is a dream for any manager. That’s why I’m so excited about this opportunity. I look forward to working with a very talented group of players and staff to develop a team that continues the club’s tradition of success and makes our fans proud,” Maresca told the London club’s official channels.
THE CARREER – Having arrived at Chelsea at the end of the triumphant season in which he brought Leicester back to the Premier League, in his career as manager Maresca was the protagonist in Manchester City’s victory of a championship with the Under 23 team and the treble of the first team coached by Pep Guardiola in the 2022/2023 season. However, his experience in Serie B at the helm of Parma was anything but memorable, as he was sacked after just 14 matchdays in the 2021/2022 season.

THE DETAILS – Maresca’s staff at Chelsea will include former goalkeeper Willy Caballero, Danny Walker, Michele De Bernardin, Marcos Alvarez, Javi Molina and Roberto Vitiello. To free him from the current contract with the Foxes until 2026, Chelsea owner Todd Boehly paid compensation of around 10 million euros into Leicester’s coffers. Maresca overcame the competition of Roberto De Zerbi, free after his experience at Brighton and the manager of the newly promoted Ipswich Town McKenna. He will be the seventh Italian to coach Chelsea after Vialli, Ranieri, Ancelotti, Di Matteo, Conte and Sarri.
