No third place. The Atalanta of miracles, after various parties and celebrations, has a full belly and is unable to overtake Juventus: Gasperini’s team loses against a Fiorentina who suddenly discover themselves prolific in attack and who give away to Vincenzo Italiano (destined for Bologna) the last joy of a three-year period that ended bitterly last Wednesday, with defeat in the Conference League final against Olympiakos. They started with a thousand reversals that were decided in the first half: Viola took the lead three times (Belotti, Gonzalez and Belotti again) and the Bergamo players managed to remedy the situation only twice (with Lookman and Scalvini). With this recovery of the twenty-ninth matchday (match postponed on 17 March due to the tragic illness which would then lead to the death of Joe Barone) the season of Atalanta and Fiorentina also ends: the Bergamo players, after the triumph in the Europa League, will move forward in the name of continuity while the Viola will see Vincenzo Italiano’s cycle come to an end and will necessarily have to change the page.

Gasperini leaves Scamacca on the bench: De Ketelaere aims together with Lookman with Koopmeiners behind him. The Italian instead puts Martinelli on goal, making his debut in Serie A, and Beltran moves as an attacking midfielder with Castrovilli on the left. In the pouring rain we started at a pace that wasn’t too excessive, even if Fiorentina found the advantage in the first attack: in the 6th minute a cross from the left by Castrovilli and a winning strike by Belotti, with Hien who could have done better in marking. Atalanta reacts immediately, and soon finds the equalizer: in the 12th minute a great ball from De Ketelaere for Lookman who only makes no mistake in front of Martinelli. The match remains pleasant, the level of attention of the defenses is not very high and so in the 18th minute Viola takes the new lead thanks to a nice volley by Nico Gonzalez following a cross (again from the left) by Biraghi. Atalanta gets back into motion, has a lot of ball possession but struggles to reach the conclusion until the 32nd minute, when Scalvini lets loose a right-footed shot that goes into the bottom corner, to the right of Martinelli. A crackling first half gives another goal at the end: Belotti hits again from two steps after collecting a shot from Beltran.

In the second half there was a great opportunity for Duncan who, alone in front of Carnesecchi, went too wide and shot wide. Gasperini removes Lookman and brings in Scamacca. Which immediately serves a great ball to Miranchuk: conclusion out of nothing. Atalanta pushes to try to bring home at least a draw, but fails to find the winning streak: Scamacca is blocked by Martinelli in injury time. Rather there is alarm for Scalvini, who comes out limping due to a left knee injury which is worrying in view of the European Championship. Fiorentina manages to resist until the end: now it will be a revolution for the Viola.
