Ocon-Gasly, sparks between teammates

The first corners of the Monte-Carlo Grand Prix held several twists and turns. In addition to the contact between Carlos Sainz and Oscar Piastri and the serious accident between Kevin Magnussen and Sergio Perez, at the Portier there was a contact between Esteban Or with and Pierre Gasleywhich eliminated the #31 from the race.

From the first replays it emerged that Ocon forced the maneuver to the detriment of his teammate, closing him against the barriers and then going to his front right and taking flight just before the tunnel.

Famin’s words

Alpine team principal Bruno Famin he is, to say the least, furious with Ocon for the maneuver which now risks ruining Gasly’s race too: “Esteban’s attack was totally out of the norm. That’s exactly what we didn’t want to see and we will draw the consequences. We will make a decision. On the first lap, there was no point in attacking, leaving zero space for his teammate”, these are his words to Canal+.

Market scenarios

Famin’s words seem to open up market scenarios even further. That “We will make a decision” does not bode well for Ocon, whose contract with Alpine expires at the end of the year. Could this incident be the end of the relationship between the Frenchman and the team? Ocon, no stranger to disagreements with his teammates, is on the transfer market and has been in contact with various teams. Meanwhile, the stewards gave him a ten second penalty for the accident: if Alpine were unable to get the car back on track, Ocon would have to serve a grid position penalty in Montreal.
