56 points to recover
There Ferrari after just nine races he has already doubled his tally compared to 2023 in terms of seasonal victories. A year ago only in Singapore did a car other than the Red Bull RB19 win and it was a Ferrari SF-23, but Carlos Sainz was behind the wheel. The Spanish driver repeated himself in Australia on the occasion of the third round of the season and in Monaco, after 40 races without a race, Charles Leclerc returned to victory, breaking the deadlock in his home GP.
In Canada, however, the Maranello Scuderia recorded a double zero with both drivers’ cars withdrawing prematurely because there was no longer any possibility of picking up any points. Charles Leclerc is second in the World Championship, 56 points behind Max Verstappen, which has won six of the nine races held so far. The Ferrari representative, however, has no intention of being content with looking to 2025 as the next opportunity to become world champion, nor of only targeting the Constructors’ Title this season. Already in 2024 Leclerc wants to continue to believe that he can fight to win the Drivers’ World Championship too: “We have a chance among the manufacturers. And among the riders I will push until the end”the words of Leclerc interviewed by The print. “Winning the World Championship and doing it with Ferrari is my life’s goal. How long am I willing to wait? As much time as it takes. This is the team that made me dream as a child and believed in me when I was young, I will do everything to make it happen as soon as possible” added Leclerc.
Before the summer break, F1 still has five races scheduled, three in a row starting with the one in Barcelona. Ferrari is preparing new updates to give a further boost to the SF-24. The results of these five races will obviously be decisive in outlining what the ambitions of Ferrari and Leclerc may actually be in 2024.
