Alonso always wins, Ortolà beat

Moto3 raced in Catalonia, where Alonso took the first step of the podium. Ortola finished second ahead of Rueda.

Ivan Ortolà sprinted ahead of everyone. Veijer and Rueda joined him from the front row and competed with a different rear compound. Soft behind also for the Italian Stefano Nepa. Furusato, from fourth place, chose the soft front. CFMoto’s David Alonso found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time during qualifying. He immediately tried to comeback from the sixth spot.

As the traffic lights went out, Holgado’s sprint was lethal and he moved up from ninth to second place. The poleman was very bad at blocking any trajectory for his opponents. Rueda and Furusato were carried into the grass for at least half a meter by Ortolà. A rather incorrect maneuver, but anything is allowed at the start in the MotoGP world championship, barring sensational crashes. Munoz was among the riders who started best.

The top 10 were compacted into a large group. Among the Italians, Luca Lunetta stood out as he followed Rueda with fast laps. Furusato and Munoz had to serve a long lap penalty and joined the second half of the group. In the first part of the race, Lunetta lapped within a tenth of the fastest lap set in his weekend, moving up to fifth place ahead of Rueda. Ahead of everyone, Ortolà lost the lead, overtaken by Veijer and Alonso. The latter looked in great form on the Catalan track.

Group battle in Barcelona

Rookies Esteban and Lunetta tried to fit in between the veterans and the official riders. The Italian placed himself behind the 3 World Cup favourites. On the fifth lap the Roman overtook Veijer and Ortolà in one fell swoop, even putting the leader Holgado in his sights. After the long lap penalty, Munoz climbed back up behind the trio who fought in the leading group. Alonso moved back to third place, behind Vejier and Ortola.

The finale was thrilling, just like the Le Mans GP was. The KTMs have shown that they have taken a further step forward. Alonso triumphed last year with an overtaking on the last lap, but this time he tried a different strategy. The Colombian held out until the end, finishing ahead of Ortolà and Rueda. Seventh Lunette e Pippo Farioli came back from the twentieth starting position to ninth.
