Cucine Lube Civitanova has signed the emerging setter Mattia Boninfante, born in 2004, 190 cm tall, native of Venice, with a three-year contract.

Coming from Valsa Group Modena, where he was able to refine his technique side by side with former Lube Bruno Mossa De Rezende, the new red and white setter is a son of art. His father Dante, new coach of Gioiella Prisma Taranto after three years in Prata and his experience as coach of Greece, has a long career behind him as a setter in Serie A.

In addition to winning the promotion from A3 as a protagonist in 2021/22 and a category Italian Cup with the shirt of Tinet Prata of Pordenone, Mattia also stood out two years ago in A2, again with the Friulian team, and then landed in the last season in Modena and taste the SuperLega Credem Banca. Targeted entries and a good showcase in the most beautiful tournament in the world.

The name of Boninfante has been circulating on the international scene for years thanks to the exploits of the youth selections. Between 2020 and 2023, the Cucineri’s new entry won three continental golds (U18, EYOF and U20), and a world championship silver (U21). Last Monday, the day of the presentation of the central defender Giovanni Gargiulo at the Eurosuole Forum, Mattia joined Vincenzo Fanizza’s U22 national team in Cavalese for a ten-day training camp in preparation for the European Category Championships scheduled from 9 to 14 July in Holland.

Having graduated from a sports-oriented scientific high school, Mattia took a gap year and then enrolled online in the university faculty of Sports Sciences.

Beppe Cormio (general manager of Lube Volley): “I am really happy to welcome Mattia Boninfante into the Lube family, keeping faith with what we have defined as bets and investments to rebuild a group with a winning future. This is a boy who has not yet been able to express his potential at a high level, but he has won a lot with the youth national teams, showing his qualities in Europe and around the world. An athlete with golden hands is added to the roster, endowed with great character, equally charisma and with excellent mental preparation. After all, we are talking about the son of a great setter, Dante, who today is a coach and our competitor in the SuperLega. Mattia is destined for a rosy future. He has a great responsibility for which we and his teammates will be of support if necessary, but I am sure that he will manage well on his own from the beginning!”.

Mattia Boninfante (Cucine Lube Civitanova setter): “In recent years I have always followed Lube, one of the top clubs in the world. It is a reality that always competes for important objectives and which is now focusing on young people. I have never seen so much conviction in a club in looking for athletes and proposing their ideas. I come with the conviction of working hard, I have the example of my father in my family, who made sacrifices to build his career and never held back. Sometimes it is thought that children of art are easier, perhaps this is also why I put twice as much energy into the gym. Civitanova is undergoing reconstruction, this does not take away the fact that I will and will want to win every match because the Lube jersey is synonymous with success. The warmth of the Predators will help us give everything, we won’t disappoint them!”.
