The season of Emilbanca Rugby Lyons Under 18 ends with a bitter defeat, giving way to Unione Rugby Firenze away. However, the disappointment of the difficult epilogue does not cancel out the great championship for the Bianconeri, who finished in second place in the Interregional Championship, just a few points behind Valorugby Emilia, who also won against Pesaro on the last day and deserved to take home the trophy.
The match seemed to be going well for the Bianconeri, who were the first to score with Isola after 5 minutes. The hosts, however, can count on a group of players “reinforced” by elements of the team that finished fifth in the National Championship, and begins to grind out the game with great resourcefulness and precision: the Lions put on a great defensive display, but Florence is good at maintaining ball possession and finding the right spaces at the right moment. Around half-time four tries arrive which direct the match for the home team, with the Bianconeri only managing to close the gap with a free kick from Russo. In the last 20 minutes Lyons showed up several times in attack, but were unable to reopen the game.

“Against a strong and precise team we deployed all our resources, playing a high-level match. We just lacked a bit of precision and concreteness in attack, failing to make the most of the opportunities we had, which were also limited by the large amount of play produced by the opponents. The boys must be proud of their growth path seen during the year, of what they have achieved on and off the pitch.
We will start again from the excellent attitude and defensive organization shown during the year, which is certainly the thing we are most satisfied with as a staff, with the aim of making these guys grow further next season and fighting for increasingly important objectives. We see a lot of potential in them, and we are lucky to have been able to face this season with such a strong, united and motivated group.”
