Excellent performance by the Under 12 of Rugby Valdarno at the 44th “Città di Treviso” Tournament, one of the most important Italian minirugby tournaments, placing eleventh out of 79 teams from all over Italy, placing their name in the rankings immediately behind the most prestigious Italian companies. The Valdarno team made its debut on Saturday morning with two victories against Sondalo and Udine, which earned them access to the preliminary phase for the top 32 places, despite the narrow defeat against Mogliano. Hard-fought second phase, point by point, with a draw won at the end of time with Le Province dell’Ovest and a narrow victory with Pordenone. The last match against Valpolicella, who went on to win the tournament, allowed the top eight places to enter the groups. Despite the double advantage, Valpolicella managed to equalize the score immediately in both cases, and then closed the match with two more tries which relegated the Valdarnesi boys to play, the following day, for places from ninth to sixteenth.
Sunday started immediately with a victory against Rugby Piazzola, followed by the one against Verona, both narrow. The subsequent long break probably distracted the Rugby Valdarno boys who were surprised in the first minutes by two tries from Rubbiers Tarvisium, and were never able to equalize again, scoring only one try. With this defeat, the Valdarno team jeopardized their ninth final place, stopping at, however prestigious, eleventh place in the final ranking. In addition to the sporting result, the boys of president Paolo Sposato and coach Massimiliano Naldini return home enriched with a unique experience in the Italian rugby panorama, sharing their sport and comparing themselves with hundreds of their peers from the various provinces of Italy , in an extraordinary setting.
