The Giro D’Italia turns pink again Emilia-Romagna in a year that will go down in the history of cycling in the Region. An eagerly awaited appointment Friday 17 May with the thirteenth stage, the Riccione – Centoalmost a luxury preview of the event that has been awaited for a year now with the Tour de France Saturday 29 June with the arrival of the first stage Florence – Rimini. The competing cyclists will start from Riccione and travel through lower Romagna: 179 kilometers to arrive at the gates of Emilia, in Cento after crossing the many municipalities involved Forlì, Faenza, Bagnacavallo, Lugo, Conselice, Molinella. In Riccione, Rimini and Cento, the main urban centers involved, massive diversions to city traffic have been set up.

The Giro d’Italia and the Rimini-Cento stage: the programme

A real parade is planned in Riccione before the start of the race. The stage will start at 1pm from Piazzale Roma at the end of the famous Viale Ceccarini. The cyclists, before launching into the climax of the race, they will pass in parade through the heart of the city along viale Ceccarini and viale Dante in a northerly direction to merge onto viale Verdi towards the sea and then onto viale D’Annunzio towards Rimini. From here the actual race will begin heading towards Cento.

  • The closure to traffic of viale Dante and a part of Viale Verdi and Viale D’Annunzio from 11am.
  • Along the entire route where the race is expected to pass (viale Dante up to the intersection with viale Verdi, the stretch of viale Verdi up to the roundabout of viale D’Annunzio and the stretch of viale D’Annunzio up to the border with Rimini) Transit will be prohibited starting from 11am in the morning and an extraordinary parking ban will be in force.
  • As of 7 it was already closed at traffic viale Milanofrom Piazzale San Martino to the port, to allow the logistical operations of all team members.

How traffic will change in Rimini: road closures and diversions

In Rimini for the passage of the pink caravan various roads, urban and extra-urban, involved from the border with the municipality of Riccione, up to that with the Municipality of Santarcangelo they will be closed for the passage of cyclists. For this reason, some restrictions on road traffic will be necessary, which include:

  • The closure of State Road 16 and State Road 9 (via Emilia), for a few hours, on the morning of May 17th starting from 10.30 am.
  • The path of 13th stage of the Giro d’Italia foresees that the athletes will enter Rimini from the seafront via G. D’Annunzio, and will walk along the seafront of Viale Principe di Piemonte.
  • Arrived at the roundabout with street Knights of Vittorio Venetothe pink caravan will continue on this road towards the mountain, up to Via Losanna, where it will turn right towards Ravenna.
  • The athletes will travel via Lausanne up to the roundabout at the intersection with Via Costantinopoli, from where, turning left, they will head towards State Road 16.
  • From there, they will enter the state road, in the direction of Ravenna, covering it all the way, up to the roundabout with the State road 9 (via Emilia)from where they will then continue in the direction of Santarcangelo.

All changes to traffic in Romagna

The Rimini area will be involved in the passage of the pink caravan for approximately 3 and a half hours on the morning of Friday 17 May.

  • The traffic restrictions are scheduled in the time slot from 10.30am until the end of the race, scheduled for around 1.50pm. In this period of time the crossing of State Road 16 will be guaranteed with identified routes.
  • In fact, the state road can always be crossed in the direction of Mare Monte and vice versa, with the exception of two fundamental moments, which are the passage of the cars of the advertising caravan – scheduled for 11.30 am – and subsequently the passage of the athletes, scheduled from 1 pm: 08.
  • Traveling on state road 16, in the directions Rimini – Ravenna and vice versa, will therefore not be possible allowedfor the entire time from 10.30am until the end of the race.
  • But the state road can be crossed in the direction of the sea and mountain and vice versa, in 4 roundabouts presided over by local police officers, which are: Varisco/Rosmini (Fire Brigade roundabout); Covignano; ‘Valentini’ roundabout (access to the Padulli district from via Tosca); and Via della Fiera/Red Grotto. The 2 underpasses of Rodriguez and Marecchiese streets will always remain passable.
  • For those who travel the State road 72, heading towards San Marino-Riminia lane will be reserved to reach via Montescudo and the underpass of via Rodriguez.
  • However, the two roundabouts will remain completely closed (from 10.30am until the end of the race). Befane and via Coriano/Montescudo, which will remain closed to vehicular traffic in all directions.

The arrival in Cento and traffic arrangements

Road closures have already been put in place in Cento, the stage city where the race will end.

  • There Via Ferrarese it is closed to vehicular traffic from 5:00 am. Via IV Novembre is also closed from the intersection with Via Fava and via I Maggio up to the intersection with Via Volta. The race route includes transits in via Ponte Vecchio, I Maggio, IV Novembre, via Ferrarese, including via Risorgimento up to via Nino Bixio).
  • It is instead the road traffic in Via Risorgimento direction via Fontana exiting via Manservisi, Via Tommaseo, Via Manara, Via Cairoli, Via Oberdan, Via Farini, Via Bixio, Via Filzi, Via Fontana, Via F.lli Bandiera and Via Armellini. In via Via Nazario Sauro, via Ciro Menotti and a portion of the car park at the back of the Interspar supermarket, a transit ban is in force until 11 pm. The same is in place in P.le 7 F.lli Govoni, P.le Donatori Sangue e Organi . In P.zza Guercino and C.so Guercino – stretch from the intersection with Via Provenzali to Viale Bonzagni, no transit and no parking until 12.00 on Sunday 19/May.
  • In the parking of the Pandurera Center in Via XXV Aprile the parking area is reserved for the vehicles of the fitters/traders participating in the extraordinary market until 12.00 on Sunday 19/05. In C.so Guercino in the stretch from Viale Bulgarelli to P.zza Guercino the transit ban will be in force until 11pm on Friday.
  • Parking bans they are already in force everywhere on the transit roads of the tour and in the surrounding ones, which is why the municipality recommends using the following car parks. ISIT School Centre, via Rigone 1, Istituto Comprensivo «G.Pascoli», via Penzale 10/via Prato Fiorito, “Il Guercino” Shopping Center, via Matteo Loves, 2 – Parking area on the via di Mezzo side and McDonald’s side, viale Santa Liberata (near the Stadium), via Scarlatti/Corelli/Toscanini (near via Giovannina), For bicycles, the “I go to the bike ride” area Via Guercino, between Via Accarisio and Via Campagnoli (space lasts).
  • For the Invalids there are 10 stalls for people with disabilities in the car park in front of the Ex Macello located in Via A.Fava and 10 in Via A. Fava in the car park in front of number 38
