MotoGP, many new features from 2027: how the regulations change

Rome, 6 May 2024 – Safety and sustainability are the watchwords for new regulations that will be introduced by 2027 in MotoGP. The Commission of the top two-wheel championship has announced a package that smacks of reform and which aims to make competition more accessible, respectful of the environment and to increase competition and entertainment. The first news concerns the displacement of motorbikes, which will drop to 850cc compared to the current 1000cc, as well as the capacity of the tanks will decrease, going from 81 to 75 liters (from 22 to 20 liters for Sprint Races) while the fuel will be 100% sustainable compared to the current 40% . Then goodbye to ride-height and holeshot devices, systems used to lower the center of gravity of the bikes at the start and in certain points of the track, thus aiming to highlight the skills of each individual rider.

A brake too to aerodynamics and interventions on motorbikes to also try to contain costs. To further increase the competitiveness of MotoGP, the GPS data of all riders will be available to the teams at the end of each session, thus also encouraging the growth of the less fast ones. It will then remain in force the system of concessions by bands, from A to D, with the teams in the lower ones being able to make more interventions. From 2027, however, there will also be some changes in this case, with a reevaluation of the positioning that will allow teams to move up and down categories.
