Sardinia Open – Lorenzo Musetti regains confidence, but Darderi will not be in the final

The Sardinia Open event was needed to regain confidence in view of the very important Internazionali d’Italia tournament: and so far the objective has been fully achieved. Lorenzo Musetti he returned to winning consistently in the Challenger 175 in Cagliari, winning the final scheduled for Sunday 5 March.

An encouraging success achieved by the native of Carrara in the semi-final against the Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan (current number 89 in the ATP ranking). The blue player showed a very good level of tennis from the first exchanges, starting to take the momentum of the match after the second game.

In fact, with a 5-0 partial, the 22-year-old won the first set with a score of 6-1. In the second the South American tried to hang on to the match and succeeded until the final stages, in which the Italian showed the superiority and clarity necessary to end the hostilities.

Thanks to a break in the ninth game, Lorenzo secured the opportunity to serve for the match and was able to make full use of it (6-4). This result thus allowed Musetti to remain in the top 30 of the ranking without any particular problems.

Luciano Darderi will not be in the final

Luciano Darderi tried to reach Musetti in the final act of the competition: after an hour and 50 minutes the Italian had to surrender to the surprising Mariano Navone, who continues to have a great season on the circuit (close to the top 30 in the ranking).

The Argentine showed himself once again in form on clay: in the first set he broke the serve three times against the Italian, who lost the set 6-3. The second was even more balanced, with the 22-year-old holding serve at the crucial moment and extending the match to the advantage (5-5).

Navone had no problems and rose to 6, while Darderi fell one step away from the tie-break in the only match point conceded to his opponent (7-5).
