Marianne Vos still takes everyone to school: the Dutch wins the seventh stage of the Vuelta Femenina 2024, the second in this edition. Her success on Sigüenza’s wall with a powerful action that effectively allows her to mortgage the green jersey. Third position for Elisa Longo Borghini, while Demi Vollering is fourth, defending the red jersey.
Race immediately animated by four athletes trying to attack: these are Giorgia Vettorello (Roland), Henrietta Christie (Human Powered Health), Andrea Alzate (Eneicat – CMTeam) and Angela Oro (Bepink – Bongioanni). Quartet which is joined by a further quartet composed of Wilma Aintila (Lotto Dstny Ladies), Andrea Casagranda (Bepink – Bongioanni), Magdalene Lind (Team Coop – Repsol) and Idoia Eraso (Laboral Kutxa – Fundación Euskadi).
An attempt that is quickly absorbed by the group and then seven other cyclists try again: Yuliia Biriukova (Human Powered Health), Veronica Ewers (EF Education-Cannondale), Anna Kiesenhofer (Roland), Laura Tomasi (Laboral Kutxa – Fundación Euskadi), Stina Kagevi (Team Coop – Repsol), Quinty Schoens (VolkerWessels Women’s Pro Cycling Team) and Angela Oro is confirmed.
This action is also absorbed 66 km from the end and, in the last 50 km, a group of 29 athletes is formed with the main big names in the general classification including Longo Borghini, Fisher-Black, Vos, Vas and Vollering. The last kilometer is very hard with an endless wall Marianne Vos brings everyone together with an action of strength and arrogance. The others arrive one by one after a notable selection, Faulkner comes second, but Longo Borghini finishes with a splendid third place.
