MotoGP, Kazakhstan GP postponed due to bad weather

Kazakh race postponed to a later date due to damage caused by bad weather throughout the country

The MotoGP Kazakhstan GP for 2024 has been postponed. This is the decision taken by FIM, IRTA and Dorna Sports who announced the postponement of the Sokol International Racetrack stage, which was initially scheduled for June 14th to 16th, due to the adverse weather conditions that have brought the country to its knees. At the moment the actual cancellation of the race was not communicatedwith the hope of being able to reschedule it to another slot in the year’s calendar.

FIM, IRTA and Dorna Sports said in a joint statement: “The Kazakh Grand Prix has been postponed until later in 2024. Unprecedented weather conditions have caused flooding across Central Asia, triggering a national emergency in Kazakhstan and displacing large parts of the population would be responsible for MotoGP adding further burdens to authorities or services as they work to help the tens of thousands of people affected across the country.”

“The Sokol International Racetrack will therefore not host the GP on the previously announced dates, and any further updates will be published once confirmed. As our top priority, MotoGP sends our condolences and support to the people of Kazakhstan and all those affected by the floods in Central Asia – reads the statement – we hope that the nation, the region and the affected communities can recover as soon as possible”.
