There Cycling League has new management. This is the outcome of the Assembly which was held on 29 April in Milan. This is already news in itself, despite the way in which these new elections were arrived at do not allow us to glimpse any new life for an association that has already remained passive for too long in the past.
THE ERA OF CINTIO IS CLOSING – The first effect of this vote is the closure, after more than 18 months, of the commissionership entrusted toAttorney Cesare Di Cintio. A commissioner ordered by the Federal Council as an effect of the ruling of the Court of Appeal which had declared the election of the board chaired by Mauro Vegni invalid due to its incompatibility with the top position of the Cycling League.
In these 18 months, Italian professional cycling has reached its lowest point arriving at the cancellation of Adriatica Ionica Race and Di Cintio has collected a sensational series of “failures”.
The mega-commissioning of the lawyer. Di Cintio, chosen, appointed and handsomely paid by the President’s FCI Cordiano Dagnoni, will be remembered for the announcements relating to the partnership with NVP for the television production of the Italian races, which lasted just a few weeks, and the marketing of the television rights of the cycling races in all the countries of the world and even beyond the globe without, however, , the propaganda was followed by concrete facts.
Then there is the big mess of new statute of the Cycling League: proposed by Di Cintio after more than a year from the start of the role, rejected by the shareholders’ meeting and approved with substantial changes that completely distorted its meaning, in an assembly that met in two separate sessions settling two powerful slaps to Di Cintio himself and to President Dagnoni.
VALID ELECTIONS? – To close with a flourish the appointment of the lawyer. Cintio therefore has the masterpiece of the election of the new board with an electoral round which, to define all the principles of democracy to the limit, is to use a euphemism.
The notice of the meeting of 29 April, published on 25 April (see opening photo) on the Lega Ciclismo website, in fact, does not respect the times prescribed by the new statute. Consequently, the deadlines for submitting nominations (at least 10 days before the meeting) could not have been respected. Finally, there is the question of the inadmissibility of the candidacies (and subsequent elections) of Giuseppe Saronnias a delegate of the FCI but not a member of the same, and of the former commissioner as well as self-appointed director of the Lega Ciclismo website, Marcel Vulpis, in clear conflict of interest.
A situation that has given rise, once again, to one Weak Cycling League, subjected to the blackmail of a possible (and probable) further appeal to the Sports Justice. In short, not exactly the best way to try to restart (and possibly relaunch) Italian professional cycling.
