Yesterday there was a derby atmosphere throughout Milan, perhaps even more so than the one played on Monday 22nd which gave Inter the arithmetic certainty of the Scudetto. There was obviously no shortage of chants against Juventus (with Juan Cuadrado taking part in the anyone who doesn’t jump is black and white), but the general impression is that the city axis was the most beaten, with particular vehemence. And not only from the 300 thousand fans, also from some players who – caught up in the thrill of the celebrations – even indulged in a few chants aimed at their rivals.

Let’s leave aside for the moment the Denzel Dumfries case, which must be treated in a specific way and isolated from other episodes that have sparked less outcry, in any case amid various demonstrations of respect (such as Nicolò Barella who is concerned with stopping the anti-Milan chants). For example, Hakan Calhanoglu, one of the most anticipated at the start of the celebrations, also made an exception to the rule. In the post-match the midfielder quickly dodged questions about the past, but then at the end of the evening – with the inhibitory brakes now loosened – he let himself go by starting a whoever doesn’t jump is a red and black from Terrace 21, to the delight of the fans below who couldn’t wait for anything else. Another video instead portrays Lautaro Martinez and Alessandro Bastoni intent on taking part in a less flattering chorus for the Rossoneri directly from the open-top bus: “Whoever doesn’t jump with us, what is he / is a piece of AC Milan supporter…”. Another film with Kristjan Asllani and Davide Frattesi on the open-top bus is almost the same. And obviously we can only refer to what was captured by the fans’ videos, in the scenario of a very long day. Returning to the night between the 22nd and 23rd, finally, the same captain let loose with the same chorus from the Aperol Terrace, again to the joy of the supporters present.

Clearly the city rivalry is always deeply felt in Milan, but – as we said at the beginning – there are some ingredients that made this party particularly electric. First of all there is that scudetto number 20 celebrated in the face of their cousins: in 2021 it was Inter who reached 19th first, but the following year Milan had evened the score by launching a head-to-head for the second star. Moreover, that very tricolor had arrived in a “snatch” for Simone Inzaghi’s Nerazzurri, who collapsed between the end of winter and spring with the iconic episodes of Olivier Giroud’s goal in the derby and the defeat in injury time against Bologna with an error by Ionut Radu. In short, things that hurt and that we can’t wait to avenge: hence the enveloping atmosphere of revenge. And then precisely in that case there was no shortage of stabs at Inter during the celebrations, stings that were not always elegant and with particularly inflated targets such as Calhanoglu himself. For him there was an explosive cocktail between the farewell, the celebration with his hands to his ears at the first derby, the dissing with Ibrahimovic and the insults constantly received from AC Milan fans.
