Just six days after the “slap” suffered by the German Marion Fromberg who dared to beat her last Saturday in Paris, on the spectacular circuit designed in Montmartre, Gaia Tormena she took her revenge in Spain.
This afternoon, Friday 26 April, at Park Montjuïc where the second round of the XC Eliminator World Cup took place, it was a completely different story even if it must be said that the start wasn’t the best.
Like in Paris also in Barcelona in the qualifying round the four-time world champion found a girl who managed to set a better time than her. In France Fromberg had succeeded, today in Spain the landlady Marta Cano Espinoza, a blink of her eyelids separated her from Gaia. 53 seconds and 85 hundredths, against 53 seconds and 86 seconds. Only fifth time for Fromberg, a clue as to what would then happen in the quarter-finals, where the German was eliminated by the Dutch De Vries and the Brazilian Leite.
Instead, Tormena, riding her Merida BigNine, the bike we presented to you the other day, won the heat, passing together with the orange Dienst, the two also passed the semi-finals together, thus accessing the Big Final where they found the two girls who had eliminated Fromberg, namely Cano Espinoza and De Vries.
In the Big Final Gaia Tormena showed everyone why she wears that rainbow jersey, from the first meters she managed to pull away from her three opponents, then at the end of the first lap, she pulled away in the second. In fact, the only competition that took place was to establish who would come second (Annemoon van Dienst) and who would come third (Marta Cano Espinosa).
With this success Gaia wears the leader’s jersey of the XC Eliminator World Cup. One month break, third appointment in South East Asia in Palangkaraya in Indonesia.
