“Imagine what I could do without it”

Jorge Martin arrives at the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix as leader of the MotoGP standings and with the aim of further increasing his lead over his pursuers. Obviously, it won’t be easy, the values on the grid are very close and more riders can be protagonists this weekend in Jerez. He absolutely wants to be in the group of the best.

MotoGP, Jorge Martin excited in Jerez

The Prima Pramac Racing team rider wants to do well in front of his fans: “The GP in Jerez is always special for us Spaniards. I think I’ve only been on the podium once in Moto2, so the goal will be to get back on the podium. Last year I was very competitive, but I couldn’t overtake, and I want to improve the final result“.

Martin knows how important it is to be consistent to win a world title and is trying to approach the grand prix with a more mature approach than in the past: “Already last year from mid-season onwards I was always competitive and at the front. I continued with that consistency, focusing more on the start of the championship because in the past I struggled a bit. I tried to work a little better, staying calmer in some situations where I used to get nervous. I’m more relaxed and breathing, that’s the key“.

Jorge explains the vibrations of his Ducati

Cool temperatures are expected in Jerez, could these worsen the vibration problem that has been affecting him since the beginning of the season? The Spanish rider doesn’t know what to expect: “It is something that cannot be predicted. It depends on the situation, sometimes we have it and other times we don’t, it appears and disappears. Difficult for us to understand. Looks like we found something in Austin and I think it will get better. If it doesn’t go better, I will try to live with it and get the best result possible“.

Jorge subsequently went into more detail, specifying when it all started and explaining what solution he tried to bring, that is, starting calmly and containing his explosiveness while driving: “I started to notice the problem in the first test in Malaysia during the sprint simulation, but we thought it was due to the tire because sometimes it doesn’t work perfectly. It then happened to me again in Qatar, but Pecco didn’t have it and was going super fast. I thought it was my thing. In Qatar I suffered again in the sprint and we resolved it for the long race. It depends on how you approach the race, if you start very fast then you suffer. We can’t push 100%, we have to be calm with the tires and consistent. If you have chattering from the beginning, then it is very complicated. Ducati is working hard on this to resolve. If we are doing these results with that problem, imagine what we can do without it. The bike has fantastic potential“. We’ll see how things go in Andalusia.
