Haas mocked by Sauber
In the chaos of Chinese Sprint qualificationsconditioned by the intermittent bad weather and the almost zero preparation of the teams at the Shanghai track, the Haas confirmed once again that they are one of the best teams in the second half of the grid. In the battle between the five teams competing for positions from sixth to tenth in the Constructors’ classification, however, this time the American team was mocked by the two Stake-Saubers of Bottas and Zhou, both of whom entered SQ3.
Magnussen and Hulkenberg’s comments
Is Kevin Magnussen That Nico Hulkenberg instead they failed to get through the central qualifying session, recording respectively the 12th and 13th time. At the end of the session, the regret mainly concerned the Danish driver, convinced that he had been slowed down by one suboptimal strategy on the part of the team: “I’m not disappointed, but after testing we knew that Ferrari, Mercedes and I think also one of the Aston Martins had not set any lap times in that session. We didn’t make the right choice in terms of strategy in SQ2 – explained the Viking – fdoing two turns and stopping between one and the other. However, on the second lap it started to rain. We took a risk, it could have paid off but overall P12 isn’t bad“.
“I’m a little disappointed that I wasn’t able to get into SQ3 today – Nico Hulkenebrg also commented – but the margins were very close. SQ1 went well, there was a light drizzle, but the track was dry. In SQ2 things got a little more interesting with the rain coming in heavier. It was a matter of details. With a little more time to prepare, it could have been different. The day wasn’t the easiest with only one free practice session, but it was a one-size-fits-all situation. I feel good in the car and this is encouraging for the rest of the weekend.”.
