The Under 23 teams of Atalanta and Juventus have reached the Serie C playoffs, chasing promotion. They will face Trento and Arezzo respectively at the start of this long qualifying journey. But what happens if at least one of the two were to conquer Serie B? Basically, nothing. The federal regulation in fact places a veto on coexistence in the same championship and it cannot be ruled out that the Nerazzurri or Bianconeri could be relegated at the end of this season. “The second team may be promoted, at the end of the Serie C championship, to the Serie B championship, but will never be able to participate in the same championship as the first team nor in a higher championship. If at the end of the relevant championship a hypothesis of the co-presence of the first and second teams in the same category, the second team will have to participate in the professional championship of the lower category” we read in the official documents.

This becomes a useful opportunity to remember two other constraints, one towards the bottom and the other towards the national cup. The first: “In the event of relegation of the second team to the Serie D championship, it will not be able to register for the amateur championship and will be able to ask to be admitted to the Serie C championship only in the event of a staff vacancy in the same championship, according to the procedures which will be established for this purpose”. The second: “The second team of the Serie A club will not be able to participate in the Coppa Italia Serie A, while it will participate in the Coppa Italia Serie C”.
