The men’s cycling World Tour calendar continues unabated. After the stone classics here are the Ardennes which will open, as usual, with theAmstel Gold Race scheduled for Sunday. All against a super favorite: Mathieu van der Poel, who wants to continue his dream spring after the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix, also imposing himself on his home roads.
There are several outsiders in a race that often saw surprises triumph. Let’s start with the one who demonstrated yesterday at the Brabant Arrow that he is very brilliant and who in 2022 had to settle for second place by millimeters: the Frenchman Benoît Cosnefroy (Decathlon AG2R The World Team).
Very brilliant last year, he finished second (first of the humans behind Tadej Pogacar), Ben Healy (EF Education – EasyPost) is ready to be seen again at the front after a not-at-the-top start to the season. The Belgian, however, started off strong Maxim van Gils (Lotto Dstny) which continues with luxury placings.
Names to consider also include Thomas Pidcock (INEOS Grenadiers), also beaten in 2021 by centimeters by van Aert, Dylan Teuns (Israel – Premier Tech) and Toms Skujiņš (Lidl – Trek).
