Libera Manfredonia, in memory of little Caterina Ciavarrella

MANFREDONIA (FOGGIA) – Keeping alive the memory of Caterina Ciavarrella, killed by the mafia at just five years old way back in March 1981, through play, sport and the words of students, renewing together the collective commitment for a more just and free.

It is with this spirit and this objective that the community of the Manfredonia school garrison named after her and established it, at the “Ungaretti – Madre Teresa di Calcutta” State Comprehensive Institute, gathered to play a symbolic match as the representatives tell us premises of the Libera association.

On March 28, 1981, in San Nicandro Garganico (FG), Giuseppe Tarantino killed an entire family, starting a real feud.

Those who fell under the gunshots were Matteo Ciavarella, 57 years old, his wife, Incoronata Gualano, 55 years old and their three children, Nicola, Giuseppe and Caterina.

The latter was only 5 years old. The bodies were never found: according to one of the investigators’ hypotheses, the murderer fed them to the pigs to make all traces disappear.
