Serie B, the candidates for promotion to Serie A

Palermo is growing well, Catanzaro is irresistible. Cesena and Modena are waiting for reinforcements: they all believe in it

There is no championship killer. It’s not even the most uncertain Serie B ever. But it’s intriguing, because up there among the Seven Sisters there is a truly suggestive scenario. They ended 2025 with significant numbers. and with the market, they will launch themselves into the descent towards the finish line. It will be a very crowded sprint: that’s why everyone can believe it.

frosinone

Leaders with the best attack (34 goals) and the longest open positive streak (10 days). The numbers explain Frosinone’s flight and the performances illuminate it. For a team that was last at this time a year ago, and which has changed very little (apart from coach and sporting director), it seems incredible. Instead Alvini built a perfect machine, which easily overcame the critical moment (the defeats in a row against Venezia and Monza, the only ones) and went back to playing and crushing its opponents. And be careful: Frosinone, in Serie A, has gone there 3 times in 10 years…

monza

It seemed that, after a string of 7 victories, Monza could repeat Sassuolo from a year ago. The premises were identical. Instead, a slowdown (2 points in 3 races) slowed down the rise. Now the engine has started running again with two victories and the market is the right time to complete Bianco’s squad (see midfield) as it was not possible to do in the summer due to a change in ownership: however, the moves need to be made correctly.

venezia

The same could also apply to Venezia, where however the disappointment was overcome more quickly. It immediately became the usual Stroppa team, which dominates and is solid, but which does not always have the necessary concreteness. So, if at home it goes like a train (8 wins out of 9), abroad it has only collected 2 successes and left heavy points along the way. But after 7 in the last three away matches, he has taken a pace that will be difficult for anyone to slow down.

palermo

The conditions for returning to Serie A were all there, but the start was complicated. Inzaghi enjoys better defense (13 goals) and the king of bombers (Pohjanpalo, 12), otherwise the team, as it was built, should have given more. Obviously nothing is lost. The 4 victories in the last 5 races and the fourth place have brought back confidence. Now we need the right replacement for Brunori.

catanzaro

It’s the team of the moment. The 5 victories in a row have relaunched Catanzaro into the playoff zone and Aquilani is a candidate to be the third coach in a row to do so (after Vivarini and Caserta). But not only that. The freshness of the squad, the quality of the young players and the “new” Iemmello give no limits to this team.

cesena

Mignani is improving on last year’s path (playoffs) finding certainties day after day. The problem is the short squad and the club was organizing an important transfer, but the blockade stopped it: if they manage to resolve it by paying what is necessary, Cesena with reinforcements could be a candidate in all respects.

modena

After the excellent start, Modena stalled (4 knockouts in 5 matches) and realized in direct matches that they were one step behind their rivals. Sottil is comforted by the good performances, but more imagination is needed in the middle (Massolin is not enough) and concreteness up front (De Luca on the way). Once this is resolved, Modena will be able to move back up.
