De Laurentiis “had fun with the Sky commentary”, but Cremonese-Napoli was on DAZN: what does it mean

As often happens, Aurelio De Laurentiis he wasted no time after his Napoli’s victory at Cremonese. Usual celebratory post on social media for the Italian president, who this time however surprised everyone with a somewhat cryptic message. In fact, the owner, in addition to praising the team and the coach, commented: “I had a lot of “fun” with Sky’s comment…”. What did he mean?

What is the meaning of De Laurentiis’ comment after Cremonese-Napoli

That reference to the satellite broadcaster is a clear reference to the commentary of the match. In fact, De Laurentiis underlined that he liked what was said in the story of Napoli’s success in Cremona, or in the Sky study. We remind you that the match was exclusively on DAZN, and was broadcast on Sky only on Sky Business, i.e. in commercial premises. Real or ironic appreciation? Difficult to establish.

The hypothesis of a jab at DAZN

The second hypothesis, that is, that the joke was hiding a dig at DAZN, was blurred and the possibility of seeing the match on Sky was almost preferred. On the other hand, the president of Napoli had in the past spared no interventions that were anything but in favor of the streaming platform.

De Laurentiis’ attacks on DAZN

The last one was on stage at the Football Gala, when he expressed his doubts about the Italian football system with a joke on the TV rights front: “In January we will have to choose what to do for next year. If DAZN were to abandon us like they did in France, we would all be in trouble.”. In short, a demonstration of skepticism towards the paid service, complete with a joke even on the commentary: “Do they do a great job? As long as there aren’t commentators who are too pro-Romanist.”

The most striking case was last March, after the victory against Juventus. De Laurentiis, enraged, closed with DAZN: “From now on we will only talk with Sky and Rai”. Strong images are those of the president of Napoli who, after having “surprised” the cameras of the platform in the locker room tunnel, literally chased away the operators: “DAZN has no right to do anything. So get out of there right now, get the hell out.”

The president has never liked the intrusiveness of the cameras in the changing rooms, some programming choices, in addition to the already mentioned topic of the alleged excessively biased commentary. In fact, a month earlier, here is another sensational outburst not only against DAZN but also against the League: “The Lega Serie A is a disaster, a pile of total incompetence. Why let cameras into the locker room when the players have a testicle half in and half out, all concentrated? Go bother. What do you sell, what is the spectacular nature of this sacred moment? There is only the stupidity of those who sell things on television.”
