An avalanche broke out around 2pm in Claviere, in Val di Susa, between the slopes and off-piste. According to testimonies there would have been at least two people involvedbut the reclamation operations concluded at sunset gave negative results. Helicopters and ground personnel from the 115 and 118, the mountain rescue team with dog units and ski carabinieri intervened on site. The avalanche and the alleged people involved had been reported by a ski instructor.

The avalanche bulletin for today indicates a danger level 3-considerable (on a 1 to 5 point scale) above 2,000 meters and 2-moderate below (see image below).

“The abundant fresh snow – we read in the bulletin – as well as the accumulations of windswept snow which in some places have reached a certain thickness remain partly unstable. Natural avalanche activity will decrease. Nonetheless, natural avalanches of medium and, at isolated level, large dimensions are possible. Furthermore, during the day, especially at the bases of rock faces, small and, at isolated level, medium sized wet avalanches are possible of size. Even a single winter sports enthusiast can trigger avalanches in some places, even medium-sized ones.
