An avalanche broke out in Claviere, in Val di Susa, on an off-piste stretch. According to the information provided by the rescuers at the end of the searches, no person was involved. Initially it emerged that there were at least two people buried under the snow: a witness reported to rescuers that he had seen some people involved, triggering searches which ultimately ended with negative results. During a helicopter overflight, the firefighters noticed four traces of skiers entering and the same number leaving the avalanche area. A circumstance that indicates how, at least the four of them, independently emerged from the mass of snow. Rescuers do not rule out that the detachment occurred precisely as the skiers passed. Helicopters and ground personnel from the 115 and 118, the mountain rescue unit with the dog units and the ski carabinieri intervened on site.

The avalanche bulletin

The avalanche bulletin for today indicates a danger level of 3-considerable in the area (on a scale of 1 to 5 points) above 2,000 meters and 2-moderate below. As stated in the avalanche bulletin, “the abundant new snow as well as the accumulations of windswept snow which in some places have reached a certain thickness remain partly unstable. Natural avalanche activity will decrease”. But, they warn, “there are possible natural avalanches of medium and, at an isolated level, large dimensions” and “over the course of the day, especially in the bases of rock faces, wet and wet avalanches of small and, at an isolated level, of medium dimensions are possible”. And again: “Even a single winter sports enthusiast can in some places trigger the triggering of avalanches, even medium-sized ones. The dangerous points are found in the areas near the ridges as well as in the basins, in the gullies and behind changes in slope”.
