Intense snowfall hit the Apennines during the night between Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 24th December. At Passo delle Radici approximately twenty centimeters of snow have accumulated, while snowfall is still ongoing in various mountain areas of the Modena area.
Snow is falling in particular in the municipalities of Frassinoro and Montefiorino, but also in Palagano and in upper Frignano, in the areas of Sestola, Fanano and Montecreto. Montese and Zocca were also whitewashed. The weather conditions made it necessary for the intervention of provincial vehicles, which had been busy since night to ensure the cleanliness and safety of provincial roads.
Precisely in Zocca, on the provincial road twenty-five in the Ciano area, a narrowing of the roadway was ordered as a precaution due to debris falling onto the road. The provincial technicians intervened promptly to make the affected section safe.
To deal with the snow emergency and keep over nine hundred kilometers of provincial roads passable, the Province can count on a large deployment of vehicles this year. A total of one hundred and sixty-five vehicles are available, of which one hundred and seventeen snow plows belonging to affiliated private companies: sixty-two operate in the mountains and fifty-three on the plains. Added to these are twenty-seven salt spreaders (thirteen in the mountains and fourteen in the plains), nine vehicles owned by the Province and fourteen combined vehicles, capable of performing both the function of snow plows and salt spreaders.
The device is completed by two turbines owned by the province, used in particular to ensure the opening of the roads on the ridge, especially in the Frassinoro area and at Passo delle Radici, among the points most affected by the snowfall in recent hours.
The situation remains under constant monitoring, while motorists are advised to drive carefully and use winter tires or chains in the affected areas.
