Lamborghini Revuelto vs Ferrari SF90 Stradale, data and solutions compared
Descriptive text here

Now that, along the Via Emilia, there are two electrified hypercars, it is imperative to compare them in terms of data and fundamental characteristics of projects united by having introduced Lamborghini and Ferrari to the plug-in hybrid.

Both offer exaggerated performance, extreme exclusivity and unparalleled technical and technological content. However, the form they give to these contents is very different. Style, founding solutions of the Revuelto project and the SF90 Stradale, speak substantially different languages.

We want to look at these differences, compare them, as well as record the (few) points of contact.

Style at the antipodes

The main, glaring difference that separates the Ferrari SF90 Stradale and the Lamborghini Revuelto belongs to style. Soft sinuosities interrupted by more accentuated angles for the hybrid hypercar designed by the Centro Stile Ferrari, directed by Flavio Manzoni. Marked edges, proportions that refer to the Countach from 1971 – to introduce styles that have become the brand’s identity – those chosen by the Centro Stile Lamborghini directed by Mitja Borkert.

They are dimensionally different, not by a small amount, the Revuelto and the SF90 Stradale. The first is longer, reaching up to 4.94 meters in length, against the 4.71 meters of Ferrari. A gap that is more relevant in driving dynamics if you look at the wheelbase: 2.65 meters on the SF90 Stradale against 2.78 meters on the Revuelto.

Chassis, the carbon monocoque against aluminum

Lamborghini remains faithful to the monocoque carbon frame, unprecedented for the adoption of additional forged carbon frames; Ferrari does not give up the aluminum frame. The overall differences in weight are the result of a whole system, not just the choice of frame materials. Lamborghini Revuelto weighs 1,772 kg dry, the Ferrari SF90 Stradale 1,600 kg (1,570 kg with the lightening of the Fiorano structure). Numbers that generate a power-to-weight ratio of 1.75 kg/hp for Lamborghini and 1.57 kg/hp for Ferrari.

Batteries, different in placement and capacity

Looking further into the characteristics of the plug-in hybrid system, other points of difference between the two hypercars emerge. Lamborghini has installed the battery pack in the central tunnelwith bag cells and an energy capacity of 3.8 kWh.

Ferrari SF90 Stradale opts for a transversal layout, behind the seats, of a battery, moreover, with greater capacity: 7.9 kWh. Both are recharged on the go, or from columns of up to 7 kW. They were born for absolute performance but they don’t disdain one mobility for very short distances with zero emissions. Revuelto travels “over 10 km” in electric mode, while the SF90 Stradale reaches 25 km. Needless to say, the contribution of the three electric motors – the front two are on both plug-in hybrids of the axial flow type – is thought above all in terms of performance and dynamics.

The numbers of electric motors

The Revuelto takes advantage of an electric four-wheel drive mode that the SF90 Stradale does not have. In terms of absolute power, each Lamborghini motor generator (3) delivers 150 horsepower, while on the Ferrari we have 115 horsepower from each front electric motor (2) and 204 horsepower from the engine installed on the rear gearbox. Here, the transmission, double clutch and 8 gears, is a solution shared by both proposals.

System horsepower and price

One delivers 1,000 round horsepower, the other 1,015 horsepower. It’s certainly not the 15 horses that make the difference in choosing between one Revuelto for 510,000 euros and a SF90 Stradale for 430,000 euros: on closer inspection, not even the price is an element of choice.

Internal combustion engine, the naturally aspirated V12 or the V8 turbo?

By philosophy they are two substantially different hybrids, those proposed by Lamborghini and Ferrari. The heat engine is a 6.5 liter naturally aspirated V12 on Revueltofrom 825 horses, against a 3.9-litre twin turbo V8 adopted from the SF90 Stradale: 780 horsepower on the plate. The thermal component is combined with three electric motors, whose contribution in terms of maximum power is not an exact sum for both proposals.

Speed performance

It is more than ever a question of belonging to the brand, of tastes linked to design, of design philosophies which can lead to preferring one of the two plug-in hybrids with very high dynamic performance. In terms of speed and acceleration, we are more than certain you will not be “disappointed” with the 2.5 seconds of the 0-100 km/h declared by Revuelto and SF90 Stradale; least of all, from the 340 km/h of the Ferrari and the over 350 km/h of the Lamborghini, a very distant limit that can only be reached on some specific tracks.

A thousand ways to drive them

The design differences are enormous within the two hypercars, which share the position of placing as many functions and controls as possible on the steering wheel. Lamborghini offers the driver 13 combinations of ways to use the hybrid system and dynamic set-ups: Città, limited to 180 horsepower; 886 horsepower road; 907 horsepower Sport and 1,015 horsepower Corsa. Each can be combined with the hybrid modes Recharge, Hybrid, Performance.

The SF90 Stradale features the 5 “classic” manettino positions – Wet, Sport, Race, traction control off, stability control off – and the Hybrid, Performance and Qualify modes of the hybrid system. Both, of course, have the eDrive mode for electric driving.
