They are touching images, those of the last farewell to Agnes Lassallethe French teacher killed last February 22 by a 16-year-old student who “heard voices” in Saint Jean de Luzat the foot of the French Pyrenees. A tragedy that shocked the small town on the outskirts of Biarritz, but also the whole country. Nevertheless Stéphane, the companion of the murdered teacher, wanted to remember her during the funeral in a completely unusual and moving way. Once the coffin left the Church after the funeral, the man waited for the first notes to spread across the square, then he moved his first dance steps to the rhythm of the swing (in French) by Nat King Cole. Dancing was the couple’s lifelong passion, and the man wanted to pay homage to the woman as well. An initiative that has involved the other participants at the funeral: one after the other, many of the people gathered for Agnès Lassalle’s funeral joined the man, forming couple after couple a real corps de ballet for the last farewell to the teacher. The video, released by the France 3 television chain, has gone viral on social media. To relaunch it in the last few hours, among others, also the DJ Claudio Cecchettowho joined the virtual homage moved.

The woman – a Spanish teacher – had been stabbed to death on February 22 by a 16-year-old student of hers with psychiatric problems. Once arrested, the young man told the investigators that he was “in internal conflict with an evil being” and that he had heard “a small voice who suggested that he commit murder.” The prosecutor of Bayonne, Jerome Bourrier, had reported it at a press conference. It is the first time that a teacher has been killed in the exercise of his profession in France since the terrible murder of Samuel Pattythe teacher murdered by an Islamic fundamentalist of Chechen origin on October 16, 2020 at the gates of Paris.
