Dear Summer 2024: Increases for transport, beaches and hotels – Summer 2024

Accounts, projections, estimates: forecasts on Italians’ spending are multiplying in view of the holidays with only one certainty, for the summer of 2024 the price increases affect every aspect of the holiday, from transport to accommodation, passing through establishments, parks and museums.

We start with transportation. In fact, from next July 1st the Telepass rates will increase, with the Basic offer going from 1.83 to 3.90 per month (+113%), the Easy offering going from 2.50 to 4.64 euros per month ( +85.6%), the Plus from 3 to 4.90 euros per month (+63.3%). Tolls and parking meters are also more expensive, rising by +2.1% on an annual basis in the last month. Codacons does the math, lining up all the increases, such as those of national airline tickets, which increased by 24.4% in a single month based on the calculations of the consumer association, and international ones by 7.3%, while trains show a +9.3% on 2023. If we then consider only the flight fares for the central week of August to the main Italian and foreign seaside resorts, the price increases are in the order of +20% compared to summer 2023, according to the calculations made by Codacons. And in many cases there is the hand of the algorithm which maximizes the ‘increasing demand/increasing price’ effect on all platforms, not only for airlines but also for hotel price lists , holiday homes, B&Bs and accommodation facilities in general, again for the period of August which recorded increases of between +15% and +25% in the main Italian locations. Price increases for beach establishments are more limited, in the order of +5% in August, and for parks, museums and gardens, which rose by +2.1% in the last month.

Codacons then cites some cases of crazy prices for super VIP holidays: 77,504 euros if you choose an exclusive villa in Positano, 63,307 euros in Pula (Sardinia), 54,344 euros for a “presidential suite” in a structure in Bressanone, 39,242 for a week on a private yacht in Porto Cervo, 37,492 euros for a villa in Taormina, 30,124 euros for a chalet in Ortisei.

Almost a bargain then the 20 thousand euros for a plane ticket to Papua New Guinea. Meanwhile Consumerismo indicates that also this year the sea in Albania costs half of its Italian neighbor: comparing 6 well-known Albanian seaside resorts with the same number of Italian seaside destinations, it turns out that on average the savings, only for the item “accommodation”, stands at 68.3% in Albania.
