BRINDISI – «The Brindisi flying squad is seizing the ship Goddess of the Night (or Mykonos Magic, ex Costa Magica, ed.), moored at the port of Brindisi, due to numerous public complaints». This was announced by the secretary of the Coisp police union Domenico Pianese, recalling that the ship was intended to host the over 2,500 officers and other police forces aggregated in Puglia for the G7 security service. A ship which, underlines Pianese, “was in terrible sanitary conditions, with dirty and damaged accommodation, unusable toilets, dilapidated showers, flooded cabins”.

Meanwhile, the ‘Gnv Azzurra’ arrived in Brindisi this morning, the replacement ferry ship which will host around 600 law enforcement operators committed to guaranteeing the security of the G7. For all the others, however, accommodation was found in various accommodation facilities in the area. The arrival of the GNV Azzurra ferry which docked this morning in the port of Brindisi to host part of the police forces involved in the G7 represents «a first glimmer of light to restore the dignity of colleagues, but this is not enough. We will monitor the accommodation and food conditions and will leave Brindisi only when we are certain that there will be no problems.”
This was declared by the general secretary of the Carabinieri union Sim CC Antonio Serpi after the controversy over the conditions of the Mykonos Magic ship which initially should have welcomed over 2500 agents and soldiers and the arrival of the new ship today. For Sim CC «the joint commitment of the unions of all the police forces has allowed the start of the solution to the critical issues which it is now hoped can be definitively resolved in a short time. The Prefect’s commitment is also good – concludes Serpi – to make a request to the Ministry for further funds to increase the overtime hours of colleagues”. (
