Israeli War Cabinet Minister Benny Gantz has resigned from the cabinet. Gantz himself announced this in a statement to the media, writes the Jerusalem Post. “I leave with a heavy heart,” he said. “We will not win this war as we planned.”
“Netanyahu prevents us from advancing towards true victory”, he attacked in the speech broadcast live on Israeli TV, “Strategic decisions are faced with procrastination and hesitation due to political considerations”. “After October 7, as hundreds of thousands of patriotic Israelis did, we made ourselves available. We did it even though we knew it was a bad government. We did it precisely because we knew it was a bad government,” he continued. “We formed an emergency government for a partnership marked by fate, not for a political partnership. Months after the October disaster, the situation in the country has changed”, said Gantz, who had asked Netanyahu – without obtaining it – for a plan for the end of the war in Gaza and the future of the Strip, thus giving him an ultimatum.
Benyamin Netanyahu has appealed to Benny Gantz not to leave the government and not to abandon the battle. “Israel is in an existential war on multiple fronts,” Netanyahu wrote on X. “Benny, it’s not time to abandon, it’s time to join forces.” The prime minister promised to continue until victory and the achievement of all objectives, “first and foremost the release of the hostages and the elimination of Hamas”. And he added: “My door will remain open to any Zionist party willing to take on the burden and help achieve victory over enemies and ensure the safety of citizens.”
