The window for the presentation of the lists of candidates in the five constituencies for the 2024 European elections at the Courts of Appeal of Milan, Venice, Rome, Naples and Palermo is open from 8 am today, Tuesday 30 April. There will be time until 8pm on Wednesday 1 May to file the list with the names of the candidates running for a seat in the European Parliament. The Democratic Party is the first political force to present its documentation to the Rome court for the central constituency. With the filing of the lists, the first confirmations arrive: the dem secretary Elly Schlein, who dissolved her reservations on April 21st, will be the head of the list for central Italy (and the Islands). Followed by the former secretary of the Democratic Party Nicola Zingaretti, Camilla Laureti, Marco Tarquinio, Beatrice Covassi. But also the mayor of Florence Dario Nardella, that of Pesaro Matteo Ricci, Umberto Insolera, Alessia Morani, Marco Paciotti, Antonio Mazzeo.

In the morning, again for the Center constituency, Alternativa Popolare – which decided not to collect signatures – also presented its list at the Capital’s Court of Appeal. Leader of the list for Central Italy: the former magistrate Luca Palamara. While in all the other constituencies the mayor of Terni, Stefano Bandecchi, will be the leader.

The “Freedom” list in Naples

At the Court of Appeal of Naples, however, the representatives of the “Freedom” list were the first to file the list (matryoshka) for the European elections scheduled for 8 and 9 June. Eighteen candidates, led by Cateno De Luca, former mayor of Messina and now mayor of Taormina, and by former undersecretary Laura Castelli, leader of the “South calls North for Autonomies” movement. On the list Sergio De Caprio, known as Captain Ultimo, who for the occasion showed his face for the first time in years, Francesco Amodeo and the Sicilian animal rights activist Enrico Rizzi. The leader of the South calls North will have to postpone his commitments for today. De Luca was, in fact, hospitalized at the Messina Polyclinic yesterday evening at the end of a rally due to an illness. Doctors have prescribed the politician a few days of rest, therefore all events scheduled for Tuesday 30 April have been postponed.

Forza Italia is not re-nominating Lara Comi

The delegates who are presenting the lists in the various Courts of Appeal let it be known that, in the Forza Italia lists, the name of the outgoing MEP Lara Comi will not be present: «The choice not to re-present myself is due to the impossibility of reconciling my I work in the private sector, undertaken 5 years ago, with heavy, as I have always interpreted them, European political commitments”, he explained. The FI secretary and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani will be the leader in all the constituencies (North-West, North-East, Center and South) except in the Islands, where Caterina Chinnici will take his place.
