SYNLAB Groupinternational supplier of medical diagnostics based in Munich, is under hacker attack. Or rather, it is there its Italian branch. We learned this from a Facebook post which, obviously, caused discontent among those who need to book tests and obtain reports.

In the first instance, SYNLAB had spoken of “technical problems” which were “causing the temporary interruption of access to computer and telephone systems and related services”, but after a few hours the company announced that it wasn’t a problem, but a real cyberattack.

Hacker attack to the IT systems of SYNLAB Italia. SYNLAB informs all patients and customers that it has suffered a hacker attack on its computer systems throughout the national territory. As a precaution, as soon as the attack is identified and according to company IT security procedures, all company IT systems in Italy were immediately deactivated”.

“The company promptly established a task forcemade up of internal and external professionals, and is working to mitigate the impacts and restore its systems as soon as possible, in collaboration with the competent authorities”.

“Unfortunately, due to the current situation, we inform our customers and patients that All activities at sampling points, medical centers and laboratories in Italy remain suspended until further notice, including the download and collection of reports. SYNLAB apologizes for the inconveniences resulting from the situation described above and informs that it is currently unable to establish when operations can be restored. SYNLAB will keep its users informed on developments of the situation through its social media.”

It is currently unknown whether the attack led to the leak of sensitive patient data.
