Now, however, the thirty-one-year-old artist, speaking with Paper Magazine of his album In the Beds of Othershe revealed of having had an important relationship that lasted “five years”. Today that love “has turned into friendship” but he he dedicated a “100% sincere song” to his ex»: «There is a part where I say: “More than being part of a threesome (ménage à troised.), I would like to have some flowers”. I understand that sometimes the other person may feel attacked because some things must remain private. But if I censored that story, I would lose the opportunity to connect with people.” Because «when I write songs, if I don’t put something about my private life, I lose the opportunity to create this intimacy between me and the people who listen to me». Naturally, Mahmood did not reveal the identity of her ex-boyfriend. Reiterating that outside the world of notes he doesn’t like talking about his private life. Not even with the closest people: «My mom always tells me that when she listens to my music she discovers new things about me».
Today the artist says he is single. Indeed, in an interview with Republic last April he even declared: «I never fall in love. And if I’m in love, I don’t know it either. I am a bit’ complicated on a sentimental level. I’m trying to figure out what my bumps are, my blocks. I’m working on it”. The last time he fell in love, he says, was at the age of 16. Then no more: “Because falling in love turned into something else, and I started to have a different approach to feeling.” Which one, the singer did not explain. In any case, having a child in his future does not exclude him: «I admit that I’ve been thinking about becoming a father for a while. Maybe yes maybe no. In the meantime I would like a dog. But I’m always around.”
Love is missing, but his career is going swimmingly. And the new album In other people’s beds gave Mahmood “the opportunity to tell me in more detail and above all more sincerely. This is the most intimate record I’ve ever produced, because I’ve worked a lot on myself these last two years. I realized that many aspects of my behavior were negative and I decided to work on it, not to close my eyes and just try to go home. Today the way I connect with new people is different.”
